WorkSafe Victoria and employers (via the medical excess) cover the reasonable costs of various medical and related services related to work-related injuries or illnesses.

These services include:

  • Medical, hospital, and nursing services: Such as doctor visits, hospital stays, and nursing care.
  • Personal and household services: For assistance with daily tasks due to the injury or illness.
  • Car and home modifications: To accommodate the needs of the injured worker.
  • Occupational rehabilitation: To aid in recovery and return to work.
  • Ambulance transport services: When required due to the work-related injury or illness.
  • Family counselling: Provided to family members (partners, parents, grandparents, siblings, or children) of the injured worker.
  • Registered psychologists and social workers: For mental health support.
Medical Services:
  • Your doctor’s visits which include;
    • Treatment of injury or illness by your doctor/ GP
    • Requesting medical services or household assistance
    • Providing certificates of capacity which are ongoing
    • Requesting surgical intervention for the injury or illness
    • Any other issues relevant to your injury or illness.
  • Physiotherapists services
  • Chiropractor’s services
  • Podiatrist Services
  • Surgeon’s services or checkups
  • Associated expenses, any medication requires for the injury or illness
  • Psychologist services
  • Psychiatrist services
  • Occupational Therapists (to assist in the return to work plan)
Household or (Like) services:

Relevant to the injury or illness.

  • Lawn mowing
  • Household cleaning
  • General gardening
  • Timber for a wood fire (if relevant)
  • Car modification
  • Household modification examples may include;
    • Ramps to house
    • Grab rails
    • Any other home alterations relevant to the injury or illness

Usually there is an assessment requirement for Household or like services to be accepted as part of the WorkCover claim (see assessors).

Dependents of Deceased Workers:
  • Financial support
  • Services expenses
  • Counselling expenses
